The $1.4 million dollar DBA
This is one of my favorite stories. The president of
a client company hired a DBA consultant he met through a friend. He was supposed to come in and get
things "cleaned up". After 6 weeks, he resigned fairly abruptly and went home. To Greece.
Two months later we discovered he updated data in the accounts payable system and had $1.4 million
transferred to an account he had in London. From there it was dispersed into accounts all over the
world. In the end, they somehow got all but $250,000 back, which obviously means this was not an
intelligent thief.
And they chose not to prosecute him, because they didn't
want the bad publicity that could happen. They were a semiconductor company that specialized in
security...
