Interstate Highways
Our interstate highways are designed to last for 20
years or more, instead of 3 or 4 years. If they did, the long term cost of building and maintaining them
would be cut by 80% or more. So why don't they? Every major study ever done has shown that 95+% of the wear
& tear on our interstate highways in particular and our roads in general comes from one thing and one
thing only: Overweight vehicles.
I say increase our revenue and decrease our costs
by significantly increasing the fines for overweight vehicles and increasing enforcement. In the long run, it
saves billions of dollars per year on top of paying for itself.
